Hi, I'm James 👋
Fullstack Engineer, Kotlin / Java on critical banking systems. Paris or remote.

About
I have been doing backend work in banking since 2022: legacy you modernise without breaking anything, and rewrites that have to ship. My method does not change, understand the domain first, secure it with tests, rewrite after that. DDD and hexagonal architecture follow from it, they are not boxes ticked at kickoff. I ship my own interfaces too, because a feature that stops at the API is not finished.

Here are a few of my favorites.
Vinstro
build In progressMulti-tenant SaaS for wine bars, currently in development: invoice OCR, Stripe subscriptions, stock management. The API is a work in progress.
Code Valley
Developer social network with container-isolated code execution. Microservices architecture, JWT authentication.
Notes from the field
The code from my banking work isn't public. I write about what I learn, there and on other projects.
A distributed fractal renderer in Rust, from architecture to a protocol bug
A Cargo workspace suggested by our architecture tutor, panics replaced by Results, and a server that read its workers' messages the wrong way.Screaming and hexagonal on Upstra, and what I let through in review
Upstra mixes two architectures that people often set against each other. Rereading its code shows where the dependency rule gave way, and one merge request I approved too quickly.
